What is Counselling

What is counselling

Counselling is an umbrella term for talking therapies in which you are provided with a safe and supportive environment to explore problems you are experiencing. You may go to counselling for help with a specific problem, to help resolve conflicts in our lives or simply to gain greater confidence. Counselling can also help you deal with a range of issues, from day-to-day worries to more long term psychological problems. It can help you come to terms with distressing or traumatic events, such as the loss of a loved one or divorce and can also help you manage stressful employment. It can be an effective way of dealing with more long term mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety.

Counselling can also help overcome the feelings of embarrassment and fear of upsetting those you love that can sometimes make it difficult to talk to friends and family. Talking to a trained professional can help you look at problems from a different perspective and help you to work through problems.

Counselling offers you a confidential, therapeutic relationship in a safe environment where you meet regularly, and where the trust and the empathy of the relationship is more important than the theoretical approach.
