Antidepressants may be causing chronic depression, MPs told
Health writer Robert Whitaker said that long-term follow-up studies show that up to 80 per cent of people with depression who take antidepressants remain depressed, yet 85 per cent of those who don’t take antidepressants are recovered and remain well at one year. Drugs may be helpful for the short-term but maybe they increase progression of the disease in the long-term. They make you more vulnerable to depression,’ he said.
